The Causes of Vaginal Dryness |
 |
Vaginal dryness occurs whenever a woman's estrogen level falls too
low. There are many reasons why estrogen can diminish. But whatever
the cause, women are left with uncomfortable dryness that can lead
to infection.
Under the influence of estrogen, delicate vaginal tissue produces
its own lubrication.
- This creamy moisture protects intimate
tissue. It also
works as a fertile environment for sperm that may be present, helping
them to accomplish fertilization.
- Without adequate estrogen, this natural
moisture diminishes and the result is annoying dryness.
- If vaginal tissues remain too dry, painful
irritation can occur, often resulting in bleeding and infection.
Because menopause lowers estrogen, it is the most common cause of
vaginal dryness.
- By age 50, more than 80% of all American
women are dealing with dryness. Yet
fewer than 30% of them receive information about menopause from
their doctor.
- Premature estrogen deficiency also occurs. By age
40, for example, more than half of all women are experiencing painful
dryness, at least some of the time.
- And 35% of all American women under the
age of 40 report that they,
too, are having a problem with dryness. That’s 25 million
women in this age group alone!
Menopause isn’t the only reason for estrogen deficiency and
vaginal dryness.
- Breastfeeding, ovarian dysfunction and
hysterectomy also
cause estrogen deficiency and resulting dryness.
- If done regularly, intense exercise can
reduce estrogen levels, and vaginal dryness will inevitably occur.
- Extreme exhaustion or emotional stress can leave women
estrogen deprived, particularly if the problem persists for extended
periods of time.
- Chemotherapy and some prescription drugs
(including birth control pills) definitely lower estrogen and leave women vulnerable
to dryness.
- Even within the normal menstrual cycle,
there are naturally dry days. Estrogen declines during the second half of the monthly
cycle, and vaginal lubrication diminishes enough to make some women
uncomfortable.
It is for all these women that Crème de la Femme was formulated.
- Developed by a woman doctor over 20 years
ago, Crème
offers safe and soothing relief without undesirable side effects.
- Formulated with only botanical ingredients, Crème
contains no alcohol, dyes or glycerin to cause yeast, bladder or
vaginal infection.
