A Doctor Created Crème de la Femme |

Dr. Marilynn Pratt created Crème de la Femme more than 20
years ago. Then she spent three years testing the vaginal lubricant
among her own patients. Today it is available to women everywhere.
It was Dr. Pratt’s own patients who gave her the idea for Crème
de la Femme.
- Founder of the Los Angeles Women's Institute & Health
Center, Dr. Pratt frequently heard women complain about uncomfortable
vaginal dryness.
- Most of them were in menopause, and coping with the natural
decrease in vaginal lubrication that happens when estrogen levels
fall too low.
- Some lived with only occasional irritation, but others
suffered chronic chaffing and even infection.
- Sex was uncomfortable for these women, and often for their
partners, too.
- Yet all over-the-counter lubricants were
messy and ineffective.
They felt gooey and tended to dry out quickly.
So Dr. Pratt set out to develop something better.
- She wanted a self-cleansing, non-hormonal
and unscented cream that would melt into a silky-smooth moisture immediately
upon contact.
- It could not contain alcohol or dyes because they would
irritate already tender vaginal tissue.
- Her lubricant also had to be glycerin-free, so that even
diabetic women could use it.
The result was Crème de la Femme, used today by thousands
of women nationwide.
- It took more than a year of research and
numerous formulation efforts. Then
the final product was tested for 3 years on Dr. Pratt’s
own patients.
- Their response was even better than expected. Women loved the
totally natural texture of the lubricant. It was so subtle
they hardly knew it was there. Yet the soothing comfort lasted
for hours.
- Crème also protected women from infection by keeping
intimate tissue moist.
Crème de la Femme remains wonderfully easy to use.
- Some women use it only for intercourse, to eliminate
friction that is painful for them and their partners.
- Most women apply it daily. A fingertip amount,
applied topically after shower or bath, is often just right.
- For women with more significant dryness, a sleek applicator
is included to apply the lubricant internally.
- Even women on estrogen replacement like
Crème
because hormone therapy still leaves them with less estrogen
than they once had and that bit of extra moisture adds soothing
protection to delicate vaginal tissue.
Dr. Pratt helped pioneer the field now called women's health.
- For more than 40 years,
in private practice and through medical research, she focused especially on the physical and
emotional concerns of women in midlife.
- Now semi-retired, Dr. Pratt continues
to write and consult with women nationwide.
- She also monitors all laboratory productions of her vaginal
lubricant.
